I started submitting my poetry and photography to literary journals in 2012.
I had just experienced my second miscarriage and was homeschooling two sons. Between the beautiful feel of my oldest son's breath on my hand as I held the books I used to teach him how to read and the random moments of tearful grief that shook my body while the children napped, I realized I had to start doing something that reminded me I was still alive - that I could share my voice even if only to connect with just one other person.
Sharing your creative work can feel daunting. Not everyone will enjoy what you create; but many will. At first, the rejections I started receiving were form letters; however, some shimmered like polished garnet because they seemed more personal and encouraging. I plan to post some of the feedback from nicely nixed submissions in the hope that they encourage you, too. All are intentionally anonymous quotes, because I have great respect for editors - they have passion for what they do and work so hard for furthering the field of poetry.
I don't know who needs to read this, but I know you are out there. These posts are dedicated to you.
